SUMMARY:Rain or Shine: City to Southwark Photowalk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxed Sunday wander through some of London’s most photogenic streets. Whatever the weather brings\, we will make the most of it together. A good coat helps\, but a sense of curiosity is even better. \nWe will be heading out on Sunday 1 March\, with a gentle mid morning start. The City is usually much quieter on a Sunday\, so it is a lovely time to explore without the weekday rush. It is a great chance to chat\, experiment\, and enjoy taking photos at an easy pace. I will be visiting some of these spots for the first time myself\, so I am looking forward to discovering them alongside everyone. Whether you enjoy bold architecture\, street moments\, or creative techniques like ICM\, there will be plenty to inspire you. \nWhere we are heading\nWe begin at Leadenhall Market\, a beautiful place to warm up our cameras\, before weaving through the modern skyline. The Gherkin\, the Lloyds building\, and the Scalpel all offer striking shapes and reflections that are fun to experiment with. \nFrom there\, we will take our time heading south towards the river\, stopping at a few historic gems along the way. Some of these will be new to me\, which makes the walk feel even more like a shared adventure. \nHighlights on the route\n\nAll Hallows by the Tower A peaceful and ancient church with roots stretching back to 675 AD.\nSt Dunstan in the East Atmospheric ruins filled with greenery and soft light\, perfect for creative compositions.\nOld Billingsgate A grand Victorian building with plenty of character.\n\nCrossing the Thames\nAs we approach London Bridge\, we will pass Saint Magnus the Martyr and the Monument to the Great Fire of London\, both offering interesting details and angles. \nOnce across the river\, Southwark opens up with even more to explore. We will pause by the ruins of Winchester Palace and the Golden Hinde\, a full-size reconstruction of Drake’s famous ship. \nOur final stop is Southwark Cathedral\, a beautiful Gothic landmark and a lovely place to wrap up the walk\, share a few photos\, and chat about the morning. \n\nThis photowalk is open to everyone\, whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or have been shooting for years. It is all about enjoying the city\, learning from one another\, and spending time with friendly people who love photography.

SUMMARY:An Abstract Talk by Stan Farrow FRPS EFIAP DPAGB
DESCRIPTION:Abstract Photography – This presentation is a little bit different in style from my other photographic presentations. It discusses why photographers should consider doing abstract work\, and how this might have a spin-off into their other day-to-day photographic work. The presentation includes a discussion of what abstract art is and whether there is truly such a thing as abstract photography. It makes comparisons between abstract art and abstract photography and introduces a few of the great abstract photographers of the past. I then concentrate on some suggestions about how to create your own abstract images using some simple techniques that possibly haven’t occurred to you before. This includes ideas about what to photograph and gives some examples and ideas that you can try out for yourself.

SUMMARY:Victorian Shadows: Highgate Cemetery Photowalk
DESCRIPTION:A relaxed\, creative day out exploring one of London’s most atmospheric locations \nJoin us for our second photowalk of the year as we wander through the remarkable Highgate Cemetery. It’s one of London’s famous Victorian garden cemeteries and a wonderfully inspiring place to explore with a camera. Whether you’re drawn to bold black and white images\, quiet details\, or simply enjoy discovering new places with friendly company\, this walk offers something for everyone. \nWe’ll be meeting on Monday 23rd March at 10.30 am and finishing around 4 pm. It’s a gentle\, unhurried day with plenty of time to look around\, chat\, and enjoy making photographs together. \n\nWhat You’ll Find There\nHighgate Cemetery has two very different sides\, and we’ll have access to both: \nEast Cemetery\nA peaceful\, slightly wild space where ivy\, trees\, and weathered stone create beautiful textures and soft\, natural scenes. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys exploring shapes\, patterns\, and the quiet character of older places. \nWest Cemetery\nThis is the more architectural side\, home to the Egyptian Avenue and the Circle of Lebanon. It’s full of striking structures and dramatic light. Photography is welcomed here\, and tripods are allowed during the timed entry slot\, so there’s plenty of opportunity to slow down and experiment. \nYou don’t need any specialist knowledge to enjoy either side. Just bring your curiosity and whatever camera you’re comfortable with. \n\nBooking and Cost\nTo keep things simple\, we’ll book tickets as a group so we can all enter together. \n\nCost: £10 per person (includes both sides of the cemetery)\nDeadline: Please confirm your place and send payment by 21st February\, as tickets are released four weeks in advance.

SUMMARY:The Photographic Sublime
DESCRIPTION:The Photographic Sublime – how artistic traditions of the Sublime influence photography of the past\, present and future Photojournalist Thomas Peck (B&W Photography\, OnLandscape.co.uk) shows how the traditions of the Sublime influenced early landscape photographers through to the modern day. With examples from painters like Turner & Caspar David Friedrich & photos from Carleton E Watkins to M Kenna to S. Salgado to A Adams to H Sugimoto\, plus the author’s own pictures. A fascinating insight into a cultural trend which is sure to provoke some debate\, especially when we look into the future at how photography and the Sublime might interact in the 21st century
